Teaching Our Children Independent Living Skills

When I was in school they taught Home Economics. The guys learned woodshop or auto maintenance. By the time my younger sister hit high school, those classes were co-ed.

Since my husband and I homeschool we have been reading about teaching your children Independent Living Skills. Some examples would be from menu planning, creating a budget, money skills, basic auto maintenance, and sewing.

For those of you with little ones, you can introduce your children to these skills at their level. Show them how to set a table, have them help you make a meal, take them grocery shopping or to the bank. It's amazing what they will learn.

Older children can be taught to balance a checkbook, plan meals, take care of younger children, do minor home and auto repairs.

You don't want them leaving the nest without knowing how to take care of themselves.

Today, I have Marcus busy ironing clothes. He informed me that he was going to using a light starch on his dad's shirts. His father will be thrilled.

Have a great week.
