Cooking With Marcus

When Marcus was about 5 years old I started cooking with him. He was my little helper. He would pour in the ingredients, help stir, and taste test. We usually made cookies and he loved to help decorate them.

As he got older, I would have him read the ingredients and amounts needed. I would have show me where a 1/4 cup was or what a tablespoon looked like.

When I developed carpal tunnel he would help me with the cutting, slicing and dicing. We would sit at the kitchen table talking and laughing. His father taught him the proper way to slice onions and how important it was to get your pan hot before adding oil.

Now that he's 13 years old he loves cooking. His favorite shows are "30 Minutes Meals" and "Paula Deen". He has made Spinach Lasagna with White Cheese Sauce, Pot Roast with Vegetables, and Pepperoni Pizza, from scratch. For Father's Day, he made spare ribs with a homemade barbacue sauce and mashed potatoes. It was delicious! We'll never go back to bottled barbacue sauce again.

We still love to bake together. One of our favorites, to make is Fried Dough. We always make enough to share with the neighbors.

When he leaves the nest, I don't have to worry about him not being able to cook for himself.

Rona's Summer Reading Program

I used to read 2 books a month before I started homeschooling. Now that it's Summer, Marcus is in a Summer Reading Program, I thought I would have one for me. I get a manicure after I read 10 books, a Starbuck's mocha frappacino when I read another 10 and so on.

My first book is "Life Lessons for Women - 7 Essential Ingredients for a Balanced Life" by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen.
I decided to start my Summer Reading program with this book because
it's from the creators of "Chicken Soup for The Soul" series. I
enjoyed reading their books while going through painful rehab. This
book not only includes stories but provides practical advice following
each story. It's a perfect size to carry in your handbag or purse,
and read a story, while waiting to pick up your kids.

I usually give my books away when I'm done but this one will stay in
my personal library for those quick pick me ups. Instead, I'm
planning on purchasing one for all my girlfriends.

The Power Of Giving Referrals

I love giving referrals. I believe that's part of networking 101. People call or email me about upcoming local vendor events, opportunity fairs, ect. Regardless, if we are going to participate we forward it to our network buddies. Once in awhile, I will receive a phone call or email from someone letting me know how the event went for them. I would like to share with you such a response. Do you give referrals?.

I hope you are having a great, restful weekend. I wanted to let you know how the festival went.

First I wanted to thank you for the lead. Second I wanted to say that you will find me there next year!

I gave out at least 100 sample bags with business cards. 10 people asked to be on my mailing list. I have received 6 orders from people who received my catalog yesterday of $322 so far. 3 other people asked me to mail them samples that I didn’t have yesterday. I am hoping to hear from others that took my catalogs and cards later. I think that if I could sell at festivals/fairs I would have had more business opportunity many people wanted to buy my display items.

Tomorrow I am getting together with a lady who is interested in learning about the business opportunity.

I collected cards for networking purposes.

I also had a lot of fun.

Once again thank you,

It's Father's Day and I'm taking my dad to see Star Wars! I really want to see this one. It looks cool! Mom is going to stay home. My treat, I'll buy my dad a large diet soda and big popcorn. We like the special effects and action in the last two films. I would like to create those type of special effects someday. I will return with our movie review. Oh, by the way, Happy Father's Day Dad!
