Suicide is Painful

Suicide is Painful

Praise and Coffee is sharing this very important post enlight of our horrible economy and how it's effecting men and marriage.

Please take a moment to read it and share it with your blog followers.

I'm Still in the Job Hunt!

It seems my work at home position is a NO GO. After receiving my drug screening results they realized that I'm too much of a worker's comp risk.

My unemployment ends around early March so we'll pray that I find something before that occurs.

So, it's back to the job hunt for a work at home position.

I'm so glad that we were able to have our car repaired and running for 6 days. We were able to run lots of errands, pick up Marcus' new eyeglasses and my medicine. But it's now making a horrible noise and Mobile Mike advised us that we need to have the water pump, several seals and timing belt change. He says we can drive it on very short distances only.

My husband's work hours were reduced severely so we'll be walking and taking the bus for awhile.

In the meantime, our Christmas was great. I hope that yours was too! Now onto this week's menu! Thank you to Organizing Junkie for hosting MPM!

10 Things Husband Should Never Do - Diane Oatis

I don't know about you but I love getting appliances from my hubby! He was definitely thinking of me when he bought a Dyson vaccum cleaner. He's very thoughtful because he knows I'm a clean freak!

Question: Do you disagree with any of the 10 things? Which one(s)?

Article Courtesy of Shine

Guys, we love you, we really do. But as wonderful as you are, every so often you do something that makes us want to jump out the nearest window (or push you out first). Please, please, don’t ever…

1. Offer to “babysit” your own kids. When your 16-year-old neighbor does it, it’s called babysitting. When a parent does it, it’s called child care, and it lasts for at least 18 years. Get it?

2. Imply that office work is harder than housework. At the end of a hard day, there may be smoke coming out of your ears, but let’s face it: You’ve basically been sitting on your butt. That same smoke is coming out of our ears too—but we’ve cleaned the house, shuttled the kids around, run errands all over town and lugged grocery bags besides. When we say we’re exhausted, we are exhausted.

3. Give a home appliance as a gift. Forgive us if we can’t work it up for this one. A new washing machine? Really? Can we get you some new snow tires?

4. Buy us the “cougar” perfume. Under our crew-neck sweaters may beat the heart of an untamed vixen—but most of us don’t want to smell like one. (Nice try, though.)

5. Brag about your driving. This is supposed to let us know that ours isn’t so great. If my husband tells me one more time that he’s been “accident-free since 1978,” I’m going to reach over, grab the wheel and make the car swerve into something, just to shut him up.

6. Be unimpressed by a meal that took a lot of time and trouble. I don’t know whose fault this is (Food Network? Julie and Julia?), but every so often we get the idea that it would be fun to make stock and spend the day basting. If the result is less than earth-shattering, say something nice anyway.

7. Buy clothes without trying them on. We know that the second you get into a department store you start to feel faint, but do us a favor and take the extra five minutes. Otherwise, you know who gets stuck with the returns?

8. Know it all, especially in public. Oh, honey. While you’re going on at length about whatever it is, we’re taking the temperature of the room, and we know everyone’s starting to fidget.

9. Say anything remotely critical about our new haircut. Sometimes getting a new cut goes well; sometimes it doesn’t. Usually we know the difference. Don’t rub it in.

10. Expect a medal for doing a little housework. Umm…it’s your house too, right? For now, we’ll give you the bronze. Maybe someday, if you work hard enough, you can pick up a gold.

The Closer - The Season Finale

Did you see the season finale of "The Closer"? It's nice to know that Brenda puts her marriage first. Don't know what I mean by that? Well then watch the full online episode.

Teen Eyes - Paid Online Surveys for Ages 13-18 is an online survey panel of teens between 13 and 18. Our son Marcus has been a TeenEyes participants for many years. He usually receives 3-4 surveys a month, responds to them and get points that can be redeemed for a check.

Sometimes, I'm sent an online survey because they want a parent's opinion. After I respond the points go into his account.

This is nice way for your teen to make their own spending money.

Garlic Prime Rib Recipe

It was a hard decision but Marcus and I chose this recipe for our Christmas Prime Rib.

Courtesy of allrecipes and Chef Mike

1 (10 pound) prime rib roast
10 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
2 teaspoons dried thyme

1.Place the roast in a roasting pan with the fatty side up. In a small bowl, mix together the garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper and thyme. Spread the mixture over the fatty layer of the roast, and let the roast sit out until it is at room temperature, no longer than 1 hour.

2.Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C).

3.Bake the roast for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce the temperature to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C), and continue roasting for an additional 60 to 75 minutes. The internal temperature of the roast should be at 145 degrees F (53 degrees C) for medium rare.

4.Allow the roast to rest for 10 or 15 minutes before carving so the meat

A Christmas Basket Full of Gifts

A very generous person dropped off a large wicker basket of food for our family at our church. One of the church couples called to say that they would be dropping it off since it contained some perishable items.

After they dropped it off Marcus called me to help him put away the food. Our mouths dropped to the floor! The basket contained a Prime Rib Roast, lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, milk, cheese, nuts, olives, pickles and a variety of breads.

They also included a Christmas card with $400 but didn't sign it.

We would like to let them know that our family has been so truly blessed this Christmas. This is the best Christmas we ever had. I also want them to know that we will be paying it forward.

To you and yours here's wishing a Merry Christmas from the Berry-Morins!

Good News! On The Road Again!

FedEX delivered our clutch cable around 7pm on Monday. Thank you FedEX! My husband quickly opened the box and responded "I think this is the wrong size." I told him this was the only option available on the AutoZone website and to relax.

Tuesday morning I called Mike, the Mechanic. He told me he just needed to finish his coffee and he would be right over.

A man of his word, he arrived ready to work. Marcus, our teen, took the part out to hime while I stayed insided nursing my cold. After a hour Mike phoned Marcus and said he was finished.

I went outside, started our loyal car up and announced "Thanks Mike"! My first trip was Einstein Brothers Bagels to break in our gift card.

Our Christmas Tree

Merry Christmas from the Berry-Morins!

My son and I will be anxiously waiting for FedEX to arrive with our car part tomorrow. Once we've received it I'll be phoning the mechanic to arrange a time for him to install it. Hopefully, we'll have the car running again by Tuesday or Wednesday. In the meantime, we've been walking and taking the bus.

I participated in a Secret Santa Exchange this year, courtesy of Decisionally Challenged. Michelle, My Secret Santa, sent us a box full of goodies this week. She made our Christmas! Thank you Michelle for your generosity.

We picked up our Angel Food boxes on Saturday morning so many of our meals will be based on the ingredients. This food co-op program saves us money and provides our family with quality food.

I had my drug test for my new work at home customer service position last week. I told the technican about my pain management medications. He did make a note of them but advised me that I'll probably still receive a call from the regulator. They will need to verify the prescriptions.

Now, onto this week's menu plan. Thank you Organizing Junkie for your hosting duties.

My Home - My Christmas Angel

December Daily :: 14 :: Tour of Home

I decided to stop by Nesting Place's 2009 Christmas Home Tour and am having a terrific time! I just wanted to share this beautifully decorated home with you. She has so many holiday decorating ideas.

Why don't you grab a cup of hot chocolate or tea and join me?

We Picked Up Our Angel Food December Order !

Marcus and I picked up our Angel Food boxes this month. It was a bit of a challenge getting on the bus with 3 boxes but our tall, strong son came through!

This was also his first time picking up our food order.

For December, we ordered the Fruit and Produce, Signature and Breaded Chicken Box. The contents will last us for several weeks and provide us with some hearty and delicious meals.

ps Don't forget to place your online orders before your local deadline!

Secret Santa Exchange Is Here! Decisionally Challenged

Thank you to Decisionally Challenged for hosting the Secret Santa Exchange

Marcus took everything out of the box to display them.

Our teenager had the honors of opening the box and letting me know that we received some goodies from our Secret Santa today!

Inside the box there's lots of yummy treats ~ Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares, a bag of Hershey's Kisses, a Reese's Peanut Butter Tree, Chocolate Gingerbread Cocoa, and Caramel Apple Cider! Our teen loves the Christmas card. He wanted our Secret Santa to know that it's very cool! (so do I)

I also received a $20 Walmart gift card and a subscription to "Good Housekeeping" magazine! I have no idea how she knew my magazine subscription was going to be ending next year. And we have the Super Walmarts in Las Vegas so the gift card will be put to good use!

My husband is at work but I'm looking forward to showing him what we received.

Our family would like to extend a huge Thank You to our Secret Santa! Your generosity will never be forgotten. This box really made our Christmas!

Our Church Blessed Us This Christmas

Einstein Bros Bagels

Our family received Smith's Grocery Store and Einstein Brothers Bagel gift cards, several bus passes, a silver serving tray and $120 for Christmas this year!

We want to thank them for their generosity.

Romano's Macaroni Grill - Restaurant Recommendation

I went to a lunch at Macaroni Grill with some of the volunteers on Wednesday. It's been several years since I've eaten there. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays. It was also packed with a business lunch crowd.

Anthony, our waiter, was entertaining and provided terrific service. I ordered the Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad with dressing on the side. I love salads and this one had lots of dark greens in it. The chicken was moist and the crust was delicious.

I wasn't able to finish my salad so I had it boxed and brought it home to Charles. He also enjoyed it!

Sahara temporarily closing two towers

Sahara temporarily closing two towers

This news has become common place in Las Vegas. Until Las Vegas is in a depression they will never understand. One must be diversified to survive a downturn in an economy.

Till then more casinos will close parts of their facilities, close down and layoff employees. Oh, and Las Vegas will continue to be a bargain for anyone wanting to travel here.

Car isn't Working - Take The Bus

RTC of Southern Nevada

Question: Do you take public transportation? Is it a pleasant experience?

Our family has been taking the bus since Monday to work, school and errands. You know what? It's not that bad of an experience! The main bus routes run about every 15 minutes during peak commuting hours. We can map out our routes online in advance. There's a bus stop right outside of our apartment complex. My husband and son have a short bus ride to and from work and school. And the bus passes that we received from our church are such a blessing!

Another plus: we're getting lots of exercise walking to and from our connections. And who doesn't need that?

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to having the part arrive, installed and the car running again as soon as possible. In the meantime, we're doing just fine and discovering another side of living in Las Vegas.

Smith's Food and Drug Stores Are No Longer Accepting Prescription Cards

In November, I shared with you news of the Nevada Drug Plan prescription card. I actually used it last month and it dropped my Vicodin from $35 to $12.75! We were so thrilled!

On Tuesday, I went to have my Vicodin prescription filled, at Smith's Food and Drug and was informed they were no longer accepting any prescripton assistance cards due to the fact they are not being paid by any of these programs!

This is sad news to the many people who are suffering economically and need discounts to purchase their prescriptions.

I'm thrilled to be back in the work at home industry. I function much better in a comfortable home setting, especially with my chronic pain issues when working.

It shouldn't come as a big surprise to followers of my blog but that it's my family that brings me great joy!

Through thick and thin, good times and bad times, we've been a supportive and strong threesome. I really do love my husband and he's also my best friend. When I have good news I want to share it with him first. When I need a laugh he says something funny.

Marcus, our teen, is our "Little One". We've watched him grow up to the deep voice, very tall and hairy young man. Charles and I have enjoyed all of his little moments. We're also his biggest cheerleaders! Go Marcus go!

I want to thank the Heavenly Father everyday for blessing me with my family.

Phone Interview Tips Becoming More Popular - Be Prepared

Charles and I have noticed that many of the interviews we've had are phone interviews. That shouldn't be too much of a surprise to job hunters. This rough economy has created a large response for job postings so human resources departments are having to come up with more effective ways to screen potential applicants.

If you're looking for a work at home position phone interviews are common place.

So, let's be prepared! Check out these phone interview tips, including phone interview questions and videos

I love the suggestion of practicing and having your resume ready. Also, using a landline phone for your interviews is highly recommended. You don't want static or a drop call to cause you to loss out of a great opportunity!

I have a phone interview on Monday so I got to prepare!

The Prudent Homemaker - Money Saving Website

This is a beautiful website full of yummy recipes, food photos and personal story on surviving underemployment. She's been extremely helpful to our household, providing grocery shopping tips since she lives in our local area.

One of her suggestions: Don't buy any meat over $2.00 a pound--period has become part of my weekly grocery shopping. I always check the weekly specials frequently, advise the family of the meat specials, select some recipes and then head out to the store.

On a tight budget? Stop by her frugal gifts suggestions, for lots of creative ideas.

One of my favorites is purchasing books from thrift stores and used book stores. Not only are you saving money but you're recycling. I like to pass on books that I've read. I just put a pretty bow on it and include a card with a few words on why I enjoyed the book.

I'm so excited about the possiblity of having a fulltime work at home job! With my unemployment benefits running out in February 2010 it would be a blessing.

So, for some of us it won't be a surprise that "As The World Turns" is cancelled. After all, I stopped watching this one almost 20 years ago. It got too boring for me and I lost interest.

Some people are saying soaps are a dying breed. Their core audience, are more busy these days and have other viewing choices such as the Internet, cable and DVDs.

I'm always sorry to read when people are getting a pink slip. It's definitely rough out there. And for the soap opera actor their options are drying up.

Question: Are you going to miss "As The World Turns"? Do you think soaps will be around for much longer?

This week I'll be busy taking Marcus to dental and eye appointments. He finally got approved for Medicaid.

Charles' Kmart hours have been reduced and I'm at the halfway point of my unemployment benefits. My husband and I were busy applying for work at home opportunities this weekend. We're praying we'll find employment soon. Thanks Rat Race Rebellion!

I attended The Church of South Las Vegas online service last night. I truly needed to be lifted up and was. I love Pastor Benny Perez's excitement of the Word!

Well onto this week's menu plan. Thanks to Organizing Junkie for hosting.

Whole Wheat Spaghetti with Meat and Veggie Sauce

Pork Loin, Brown Rice and Mixed Vegetables

Chicken Noodle Soup and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Families Stick to Homeschooling Despite Economy

Daily Homeschooling News @

We looked at the calendar and realized that our "Little One" be graduating soon, from Odyssey High School!

Our homeshooling experience has been amazing! We've been watching Marcus become more confidient, follow his heart into community service and have some great opportunities over the years.

From the Frog Dissection at science lab to his Andrew Carnigie oral history project, Charles and I have also learned too.

We've had lots of fun like on our trip to Yuma, Arizona and working together.

Yes, homeschooling has been a blessing to our family through the years! I wouldn't change a thing.

Our Teen Has Health, Vision and Dental Coverage! What A Blessing!

Our teen, Marcus

I opened an envelope addressed to parents or guardians of Marcus Berry yesterday. It had a welcome letter and a plastic ID card, with Marcus's name on it and a Medicaid number.

I immediately called the insurance company and found out that Marcus is covered and has been covered since September 1, 2009!

This is due to the results of us submitting an application for Nevada Check Up. They sent us a letter advising us that Marcus had been denied due to the fact he qualified for Medicaid.

This has was a roundabout way to get him health coverage but we're pleased with the results. He now has health, dental and vision coverage and it's a true blessing!

Free Christmas Tastings at Whole Foods (Las Vegas)

Whole Foods Market

When we lived in San Diego we loved to head over to the Whole Foods in
La Jolla around Christmas time. The ready-made food and deli section was busy, colorful and fun! We loved sampling and then buying some goodies to take home and enjoy at the kitchen table.

Whole Foods, 7250 W Lake Mead, Las Vegas is dishing up Holiday offerings for you to try - completely FREE!

Come out to Whole Foods on Sunday, December 13th from 12pm - 3pm.

Parenting Your Teens During The Recession

Who's cooking in the kitchen with Marcus?

Charles and I definitely worried about how Marcus would and is dealing with the many losses in such a short time. We did get some yelling and anger words along the way. We also receive encourgement and support. Remember, he had to adjust to the changes too.

I've blogged about him volunteering at our church, recreation center and his homeschool PE program. Since I'm no longer working I have the time to take Marcus to his many activities. He recently told me he has appreciated the new experiences.

We're thrilled that he's taken an interest in our budget. He loves spotting grocery clearance sales at Fresh & Easy! Many times, he'll add his opinion regarding a purchase or expense. He's even been known to do some online research. And we do value his opinions.

During these difficult times teens can learn many valuable life lessons. The value of a buck, working for the first time, giving of their time and learning to live within their means.

Triangles or Rectangles? How Would You Like Your Sandwich Cut Debate

A sandwich cut just the way I like it! My husband says he loves rectangles! Marcus says "You used to cut them in triangles when I was a kid but now I just quit caring since I make my own sandwich"

When I read this article yesterday I just had to let out a chuckle or two! I never cared how my sandwich was cut till I started working at Friendly's, many moons ago. (darn that place)

I just have to have my sandwich cut into triangles or it just doesn't feel right!

So, here's my question ~ triangles or rectangles?

What's For Dinner? Wednesday Night

Marcus is roasting an Applewood and Bacon Pork Loin for dinner! I'll be making it a full meal with some veggies and rice.

Thanks to the Calvary Chapel Food Bank for the 2 Applewood and Bacon Pork Loins, Italian Sausages, milk, eggs, bread, pasta, and other canned goods, this month.

Red Rock Park, Las Vegas - Wordless Wednesday

I went to Red Rock Park with a family friend, in August. She thought it would be a good distraction for me.

Here's a few of the photos I took that day.
