Watching "You've Got Mail" - What's Your Favorite Me-Time Movie?

I'm relaxing this Saturday afternoon, hanging out in the gathering room, with my hubby, while I'm watching "You've Got Mail" starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

This is one of my favorite me-time movies. I'v probably watched this movie 20+ times and never get tired. I love the story, the clothes and the decor in the apartments.

What's your favorite me-time movie?

"How Did You Meet Your Spouse?" - Celebrating Love Stories

Family in the Desert Life is celebrating her 14 year anniversary today!

I thought I would post my favorite blog question ~ How did you meet your spouse?

Let me share our story ~ My husband was in the Navy, his ship, USS Samuel B Roberts hit a mine while escorting an oil tanker out of the Persian Gulf. The ship was towed into the Maine Bath Iron Works dry dock for one year of repairs.

While they were stationed in Portland, Maine he would stop by Friendly's Ice Cream on Thursdays, for a cup of coffee and a large bowl of cream of broccoli soup. I was a waitress there and he would request to sit in my section.

ps In 2005, Marcus, our teen, went back to Portland, Maine for a visit. My family took him to that restaurant for lunch.

Another Dog Adoption Story - Grace for Gayle

Our Toby and his new buddy, Teddy

I'm so happy to share with you a dog adoption story from a fellow blogger, Grace for Gayle. Their new family member's name is Tucker. He's adorable and I have to say he looks very happy with his new family!

If you're considering adding a dog to your family consider saving one from your local animal shelter.

Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, - Photos

A Tank and Plane at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada

Charles took several photos of the various planes and tanks displayed on Nellis AFB. I'll be sharing more of these with you through out the month.

I hope that you're having a great week. We've been busy but being away from the job has been rejunivating for me. (just what the doctor ordered)

A Practical Wedding: Clara & Sam's Recession Wedding

A Practical Wedding: Clara & Sam's Recession Wedding

When Charles and I got married 13 years ago we were very broke. We decided to get married at the San Diego Courthouse, Marcus and a friend were in attendance. We had a cake courtesy of our local Vons but no photos, favors or dinner party.

Here's a couple that decided to have a very small intimate wedding. The photographer captured the day beautifully. I wish them the very best!

Wordless Wednesday - July 4th Picnic at Nellis AFB

It was 105 degrees that day so my husband went alone to man our booth, at the July 4 picnic. (our company is a sponsor to Nellis AFB)

Works For Me Wednesday - Insurance for Teens and Young Adults

Our son, Marcus relaxing in our Gathering Room

After browsing health insurance websites I found the answer with a local insurance broker. She suggested Tonik Heatlh, Anthem Blue Cross, for Marcus. For only $98 a month, he has health, dental and eye coverage that's suited for a young health teen.

I was even able to purchase a life insurance policy for him for only an extra $1.

This is a much better rate and coverage than what our company insurance could offer.

Please keep in mind this is not a policy for someone who needs to be seen by a doctor on a regular basis. But if you have healthly teens and are looking for affordable coverage Tonik may be the answer.

ps coverage areas are currently limited to California, Nevada, New Hampshire, Georgia, Connecticut and Colorado.

Latest Re-do - Tablescape

Summertime Gazabo purchased from Lillian Vernon

The Latest Tablescape

While I'm on vacation I decided to re-do the tablescape. None of these items have been recently purchased. I just used items that we have.

Photo Frame Gallery Sets - Red Envelope

Wall Gallery Set - $79.95

Hall Gallery Frame Set ~ $89.95

Deluxe Wall Gallery Set - $99.95

What do you do when lots of beautiful photos and plenty of empty wall space? Well, you buy frames and display them. My husband and I have been fans of these photo frame gallery sets available from Red Envelope for a few years.

I love the look of them. I also think they're an affordable way to decorate our apartment. Another good thing is one of them is on sale. If I purchase one a month I won't be breaking my Home Decor budget.

How do you display your family photos?

Menu Monday Plan - July 6, 2009

Our Bedroom with the new addition of a wall decal, summer quilt available from Marshalls, lamps available from Target

Charles got some photos of the Freedom Fest at Nellis AFB , a huge picnic, kid events and games and sponsor displays, on July 4. This event attracts around 10,000 to 12,000 yearly. Even though he had to be there at noon people didn't start showing till 4pm. He said the line for the free picnic food was extremely long so he didn't get an opportunity to eat.

He did have plenty of bottled water...and yes, he needed it with the temps around 105and not a cloud in the sky.

Marcus was able to make a short video from our roof, of the Las Vegas skyline. There were several fireworks shows going on at the Strip and Henderson.

I hope you and your family had a safe and fun July 4th weekend! Charles and I are actually taking staycation time! (it's been 2 years since our last week off!)

My Summertime Tablescape - Console Table

Photos of our son, Marcus , Cooties Catchers in a Glass Bowl, Artifical Flowers in a Vase, Guest Book from our Renewal Ceremony and a Summertime Gazabo from Lillian Vernon

I like changing the items on the console. I think it keeps it interesting. Also I just recently found some photos of my in-laws that I want to display. So, while hubby and I are off from work I'll be stopping by Target to find some silver frames.

I've also have my eye on a gallery frame set from Red Envelope that the hubby wanted to add to our guest registry.
