Guiding Light - That's a Wrap!

I remember watching this soap opera as a teenager with my mom. I grew up with these characters, watching them get married, divorced, die, leave the show, return, have kids and make lots of mistakes.

Today marks "Guiding Light"'s last episode. It has gone the way of many soaps before it due to declining viewers and rising costs.

Will or did you be watching today's last episode? What did you think of it? Did they tie up all the loose ends? Did Reva and Josh get back together?

My Unemployment Benefits Have Finally Kicked In!

I didn't know that your severance and vacation pay affected your unemployment benefits! We used our benefits to pay for our move, storage, rent and other expenses. So, when I found out that I wasn't going to be getting benefits till my severance was exhausted it was an unpleasant surprise.

This is why it's important to have savings! (which we did have some)

Now, I know!

In the meantime, we're working towards Charles receiving his benefits. It seems the office never received his check stubs and denied his claim. UGH!

ps I've also learned to communicate with the unemployment office via email. I get an answer within 24 hours!

Medical Assistance Resources

Since I no longer can afford my $600 plus prescription medicines and a $210 monthly doctor's visits I had to look for ways to obtain them.

What I have discovered is there are many resources for medical assistance and pharmacy services. Here a few that I've found so far.

State Welfare ~ Medicaid

Child Health Assurance Programs ~ Nevada Check Up is the state Children's Health Insurance Program. The goal of Nevada Check Up is to provide preventive and comprehensive health care coverage for Nevada's uninsured children. The program provides affordable health care coverage to uninsured children of low-income families not covered by private insurance or Medicaid.

Clark County Social Services

Prescription Assistance

Pride? You Don't Need No Stinking Pride?! Apply for Food Stamps

I've read many posts on the decision to apply for food stamps. Many families and individuals consider it beneath them to apply. Believe me, I get it. They were the ones that gave to charity and volunteered their time. The idea that they would be asking for help is unbelievable.

But when there's no or little income, you have to pay rent, mortgage, expenses and medical costs it's time to get real.

Some states offer online applications or forms that can be downloaded and printed. And these days you'll find a EBT card would be used to purchase groceries instead of the paper coupon book. Check out the website for eligibilty requirements and more details today.

Angel Food Ministries - Comments Please

We used to participate in Golden Share, when we lived in San Diego. It was a great help to our food budget, provided us with meat, veggies and fruit. We shared the items we wouldn't use with neighbors and the local food bank.

Recently, I discovered that Angel Food Ministries has four host sites in Las Vegas. If you've ever participated in their program could you comment about your experience. Thank you.

Looking for a Work-At-Home Job? Stop by Workplace Like Home

When I started working from home, as a Virtual Customer Service Rep, one of things that I missed was the daily conversations with my co-workers. I remember even complaining to my husband about it. It wasn't long when I came across "Workplace Like Home" message board.

"Workplace Like Home" is your virtual water cooler. You find mostly telecommuters, who work as Independent Contractors in virtual call centers, data entry, transcription and coding. You can post about recipes, marriage, your favorite movies and books. There are also job leads, as well as links for purchasing the best head sets. You'll also be able to read posts from people complaining about working. Sounds familiar?

I really enjoy reading the posts. It definitely lets you know that you are part of fast growing group of people, telecommuters.
