My Home - My Christmas Angel

December Daily :: 14 :: Tour of Home

I decided to stop by Nesting Place's 2009 Christmas Home Tour and am having a terrific time! I just wanted to share this beautifully decorated home with you. She has so many holiday decorating ideas.

Why don't you grab a cup of hot chocolate or tea and join me?

We Picked Up Our Angel Food December Order !

Marcus and I picked up our Angel Food boxes this month. It was a bit of a challenge getting on the bus with 3 boxes but our tall, strong son came through!

This was also his first time picking up our food order.

For December, we ordered the Fruit and Produce, Signature and Breaded Chicken Box. The contents will last us for several weeks and provide us with some hearty and delicious meals.

ps Don't forget to place your online orders before your local deadline!

Secret Santa Exchange Is Here! Decisionally Challenged

Thank you to Decisionally Challenged for hosting the Secret Santa Exchange

Marcus took everything out of the box to display them.

Our teenager had the honors of opening the box and letting me know that we received some goodies from our Secret Santa today!

Inside the box there's lots of yummy treats ~ Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares, a bag of Hershey's Kisses, a Reese's Peanut Butter Tree, Chocolate Gingerbread Cocoa, and Caramel Apple Cider! Our teen loves the Christmas card. He wanted our Secret Santa to know that it's very cool! (so do I)

I also received a $20 Walmart gift card and a subscription to "Good Housekeeping" magazine! I have no idea how she knew my magazine subscription was going to be ending next year. And we have the Super Walmarts in Las Vegas so the gift card will be put to good use!

My husband is at work but I'm looking forward to showing him what we received.

Our family would like to extend a huge Thank You to our Secret Santa! Your genero…

Our Church Blessed Us This Christmas

Einstein Bros Bagels

Our family received Smith's Grocery Store and Einstein Brothers Bagel gift cards, several bus passes, a silver serving tray and $120 for Christmas this year!

We want to thank them for their generosity.

Romano's Macaroni Grill - Restaurant Recommendation

I went to a lunch at Macaroni Grill with some of the volunteers on Wednesday. It's been several years since I've eaten there. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays. It was also packed with a business lunch crowd.

Anthony, our waiter, was entertaining and provided terrific service. I ordered the Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad with dressing on the side. I love salads and this one had lots of dark greens in it. The chicken was moist and the crust was delicious.

I wasn't able to finish my salad so I had it boxed and brought it home to Charles. He also enjoyed it!

The Good Wife

I finally watched this episode tonight, online. And it was great. Are you a fan of "The Good Wife"?

Sahara temporarily closing two towers

This news has become common place in Las Vegas. Until Las Vegas is in a depression they will never understand. One must be diversified to survive a downturn in an economy.

Till then more casinos will close parts of their facilities, close down and layoff employees. Oh, and Las Vegas will continue to be a bargain for anyone wanting to travel here.

Car isn't Working - Take The Bus

RTC of Southern Nevada

Question: Do you take public transportation? Is it a pleasant experience?

Our family has been taking the bus since Monday to work, school and errands. You know what? It's not that bad of an experience! The main bus routes run about every 15 minutes during peak commuting hours. We can map out our routes online in advance. There's a bus stop right outside of our apartment complex. My husband and son have a short bus ride to and from work and school. And the bus passes that we received from our church are such a blessing!

Another plus: we're getting lots of exercise walking to and from our connections. And who doesn't need that?

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to having the part arrive, installed and the car running again as soon as possible. In the meantime, we're doing just fine and discovering another side of living in Las Vegas.

Smith's Food and Drug Stores Are No Longer Accepting Prescription Cards

In November, I shared with you news of the Nevada Drug Plan prescription card. I actually used it last month and it dropped my Vicodin from $35 to $12.75! We were so thrilled!

On Tuesday, I went to have my Vicodin prescription filled, at Smith's Food and Drug and was informed they were no longer accepting any prescripton assistance cards due to the fact they are not being paid by any of these programs!

This is sad news to the many people who are suffering economically and need discounts to purchase their prescriptions.

Manicure for Me - Works For Me Wednesday

Nail Salon

While we're on a very limited budget I've tried to set aside a few dollars for a basic manicure. I can usually get one for under $10, in my area. It's a chance to receive some pampering, relax and treat myself. And I so love the hand and arm massage, don't you?!

And this is why a basic manicure Works for Me!

Terrific News ~ I Got The Job! I'm Back to Work From Home!

I guess I Wow! her because I received a couple of emails yesterday. The interviewer did advise me as she was wrapping up the interview to keep an eye out for some emails. So I did think I might have the position but didn't want to get my hopes up.

I'm thrilled to be back in the work at home industry. I function much better in a comfortable home setting, especially with my chronic pain issues when working.

When I told my husband and son I received hugs, praise and lots of excitement!

In the meantime, I want to thank everyone for their prayers and positive words.

Phone Interview Went Well!

The phone interview went very well this morning! I'm glad that Charles and I practiced some interview questions. Can you believe they even asked me to name a book that I read and what was it that I liked about it? I'm so glad I enjoy reading.

Note to Marcus ~ reading is important and a lifetime hobby!

Angel Food Ministries

Our clutch cable broke last night while I was driving. I got stuck on a major road...not good! I did manage to get the car into a Pep Boys parking lot and phone Charles.

Thank goodness for good friends. Charles called them, they gave us a ride home, had our vehicle towed and their personal mechanic is coming by today to fix our car.

This morning is my second phone interview for a customer service work at home position~ please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

We'll be picking up our Angel Foods food box order on Saturday. The food boxes have been a blessing to our household.

Now, onto this week's menu plan! Thank you to Organizing Junkie for hosting.

It shouldn't come as a big surprise to followers of my blog but that it's my family that brings me great joy!

Through thick and thin, good times and bad times, we've been a supportive and strong threesome. I really do love my husband and he's also my best friend. When I have good news I want to share it with him first. When I need a laugh he says something funny.

Marcus, our teen, is our "Little One". We've watched him grow up to the deep voice, very tall and hairy young man. Charles and I have enjoyed all of his little moments. We're also his biggest cheerleaders! Go Marcus go!

I want to thank the Heavenly Father everyday for blessing me with my family.

Phone Interview Tips Becoming More Popular - Be Prepared

Charles and I have noticed that many of the interviews we've had are phone interviews. That shouldn't be too much of a surprise to job hunters. This rough economy has created a large response for job postings so human resources departments are having to come up with more effective ways to screen potential applicants.

If you're looking for a work at home position phone interviews are common place.

So, let's be prepared! Check out these phone interview tips, including phone interview questions and videos

I love the suggestion of practicing and having your resume ready. Also, using a landline phone for your interviews is highly recommended. You don't want static or a drop call to cause you to loss out of a great opportunity!

I have a phone interview on Monday so I got to prepare!

The Prudent Homemaker - Money Saving Website

This is a beautiful website full of yummy recipes, food photos and personal story on surviving underemployment. She's been extremely helpful to our household, providing grocery shopping tips since she lives in our local area.

One of her suggestions: Don't buy any meat over $2.00 a pound--period has become part of my weekly grocery shopping. I always check the weekly specials frequently, advise the family of the meat specials, select some recipes and then head out to the store.

On a tight budget? Stop by her frugal gifts suggestions, for lots of creative ideas.

One of my favorites is purchasing books from thrift stores and used book stores. Not only are you saving money but you're recycling. I like to pass on books that I've read. I just put a pretty bow on it and include a card with a few words on why I enjoyed the book.
