Party Tips: Throwing a Party on a Very Tight Budget

We like to keep our parties small, with just a few guests. That way we can still have the best food and beverages that we can affordable. I like using our items that we have around the house for centerpieces but sometimes I'll spring for a bouquet of fresh flowers.

How do you throw a party on a tight budget?

Congratulations to Marcus and His Bowling Team Mates - 1st Place!

Marcus' 1st place bowling team trophy

Our teen loves lots of sports and has been enjoying playing on his distance learning high school bowling team for the last 2 years.

He surprised my husband and I with his 1st place team trophy.

Congratulations to Marcus and his bowling team.

Happy 18th Birthday Marcus!

A baby photo and Marcus' 18th birthday card

On February 26, 1992, at the Maine Medical Hospital, Marcus Joseph Berry was born at 4:30pm. My husband just knew it was a boy and picked out the name. (My husband's a Marcus Allen fan..Joseph is my husband's middle name)

I really thought I was having a girl but I've never been more happy to be a mom of a boy.

It's been a joy being mom to our 18 year old son.

As my husband and I reflect on the last 18 years, we have occasionally shed a tear or two, laughed and even looked at each other with huge smiles.

When Marcus got home from his new job, we announced that we him to would treat lunch. My husband has made a birthday cake, even bought some candles.

We took our son to his favorite restaurant, Landry's Seafood House for lunch.

Happy Birthday Marcus! Mom and Dad are very proud of you!

We're a Wireless Household Again!

In our previous homes we would had called our local Geek Squad and had them set us up with wireless in the apartment.

When we moved to our latest apartment money was extremely tight and the apartment complex offered free Internet.

Their Internet connection was not reliable and would go down during rainstorms and strong winds. It also wasn't the fastest speed so we weren't able to watch online videos. You also had to get their password every few days. Ugh!

While speaking with a fellow employee, one afternoon, in front of our apartment complex, Marcus and I mentioned that we missed having wireless. He was kind enough to switch out our router for a wireless router, provided Marcus with the installation instructions and within minutes, we became a wireless household again!

Wireless is definitely the way to go when you're a multiple computer and laptop family!

The New Poor - New York Times Article

Las Vegas face of recession

My interest is always peaked when I see a news article about how the new poor are handling this horrible economy. Many people are still in denial, while others are hanging on, learning new survival skills.

One of the ladies that was interviewed stated that she was blessed with 10 bags of pinto beans but doesn't know how to cook them. I say go to the public library, check out a cookbook or do some online research for a basic pinto bean recipe.

The only way we've been coping and surviving is through pray, renewed faith and arming ourselves with information.

And this time we are also including gently used household items and toys too!!!You can even donate books and used curriculum!

All remaining items after the swap will be given to charity.

Menu Plan Monday - February 22, 2010

Our Little One displaying his culinary skills on a turkey!

Our Little One is turning 18 years old this week! When I look at him I still see the new baby screaming at me...no teeth. The hubby and I would like to treat him to lunch at his favorite seafood restaurant, Landry's Seafood House.

This also marks the weekend we pick up our Angel Food Ministries box order. Even though I'm now working full time we still have to spend our money wisely. For our family, I usually purchase 2 signature, 1 breaded and 1 fruit/vegetable box online. This provides us with weeks of meals.

Over the weekend we stopped by Von's and purchase 2 London Broils. They were on sale for $1.77 a pound! Marcus does this awesome balsamic vinegar marinade. It will be a lovely way to start the week!

Now, onto this week's menu plan! Thanks to Organizing Junkie for hosting!

London Broil, Broccoli Au Gartin Rice, Cauliflower

Lasagna, Salad

BBQ Country Pork Chops, Mixed Greens

Sandwiches and Soup

Oven Fried Chicken, Carrots, Mashed Potatoes

I Need Sewing Help! Hubby's Work Pants Have a Growing Hole

Okay, I'll admit my husband didn't marry me for my sewing skills. I actually used to use the stapler to fix a pant hem before I got married!

My husband's favorite Docker black work pants have an 1 inch hole, under the back pocket!

My adorable hubby has asked me to repair them.

So, can you please tell me how to fix it?

I Won A Prize - Work at Home Now Book by Christine Durst and Michael Haaren

I recently enter a book giveaway for an opportunity to win a copy of Work at Home Now by Christine Durst and Michael Haaren. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I won!

As soon as the book arrived I decided I would give it a read.

This book doesn't give you the usual work at home advise. They provide you with real honest tools to find a work at home, as a full time employee, freelancer, independent contractor or just some extra money.

My favorite chapters are Jobs by Type and Where to Find Them, Networking for Jobs, Allies and Friends, and Your Telework Resume and Interview.

I found myself making notes in the margins, highlighting important points and earmarking pages of interest.

I highly recommend this book for someone who is considering work at home as well as those of us who are already doing so.

Poppy, We Have Clean Drinking Water! PUR Water Filtration System

My husband finally broke down and bought a PUR Water Filtration System for our drinking water! I cannot tell you how thrilled I was to see him take it out of the box and install it!

For those of you that haven't taste our Las Vegas water, it taste horrible!

We used to get 5 gallon bottled water refills and had a dispenser in our home. Since our car died we have been drinking from the tap. Ugh!

The family's belated Valentine's Day gift is very much welcome and being enjoyed.
