Law & Order is Cancelled! Goodbye Old Friend

It's official! The original Law & Order has been cancelled by NBC.

I'll admit we haven't been keeping up with it for the last 3 years. It just didn't have the same favor as the older episodes.

We'll still continue to enjoy it on TNT and DVD!

Attending Biblical Counseling for My Depression

Along with seeing a social worker therapist once a week I decided to also seek biblical counseling through my church.

My church's view on depression is that when dealing with chemical imbalances, sleep loss, ect. one should seek medical supervision and medication, when prescribed. At the same time, one must make biblical changes in their life so that they can live biblically in the midst of medical treatment.

I admit I did not give over control to the Heavenly Father before my sucidal attempt. Only once I had lost control and was truly humbled The Lord answered our prayers.

In difficulties, the Heavenly Father's comfort and sustaining love are available to us all.

Recycle Your Electronic at Best Buy

In the past when we purchased a new cell phone we would receive a recycle pre-paid envelope in the box.

When Marcus purchased his Blackberry Curve we noticed there was no pre-paid envelope in the box. We certainly weren't go to throw it out so we put it aside till I got around to finding a location to recycle it.

Today, I noticed Faith, Family and Fibromyalgia had a post titled Best Buy Recycle It On.

Best Buy offers free and fee based recycle programs in several states, including Puerto Rico. Stop by their website for more details.

It Helps to Have a Moving Checklist!

Photo from one of our moves

We've moved many times in the last 3 years and never found the process to be fun. When everyone is working full time, having only 2 days to move from an apartment and storage unit, and you need very little down time transferring your utilities you need to be organized!

Here's some suggestions that came up while being Self Storage Property Managers.

Suggestion 1: Make a reservation - don't assume that there's plenty of trucks available for your move. Some areas, like Las Vegas, have a shortage of equipment.

Suggestion 2: Have your vehicle checked before your move. We had a customer, who had towed her vehicle, tried to start her car and the battery was dead. She admitted that she hadn't driven it in several months. She had to keep the truck and tow dolly an extra day so she could get her vehicle to a dealership. $$$$

Suggestion 3: Make sure you have plenty of extra money for your move. Remember you have to return the truck with a full gas tank, you have to eat, maybe pay for a place to stay and possibly have emergencies along the way. We had a former customer's wife arrive with a sprained ankle. They had to take her to a clinic and he was concerned about expenses.

Suggestion 4: Hire additional help or spring for a professional moving company - We cannot tell you how many times people have flaked and then you have to load your truck yourself. Also, many people do not know how to pack a truck efficiently.

Suggestion 5: Pack a First Night Box - this one is because we couldn't find our frying pan for 3 days, misplaced Marcus' monitor electric connection and our plates.

Suggestion 6: Make or print a moving and packing list - This will give you peace of mind and keep you on track while dealing with a time-line.

Menu Plan Monday - May 10, 2010

It's a new week and I've started a new work schedule! 4am to 3pm PST due to the home office being located on the east coast...Ugh! Now, I'm not looking for any pity since I do work at home. But this is a big change for this gal.

My husband is really enjoying his new job, as an Assistant Apartment Complex Manager. We're looking forward to moving onto the property in June. It looks like we'll be getting a 3 bedroom, 2 bath so that I can have a home office.

Our teen presented me with two terrific Mother's Day gifts! He purchased me a Creamy Vanilla Swirl candle and a pair of yellow rubber gloves!

I smiled from ear to ear when he said he knows how much I love the smell of cake icing scented candles. And I have been a fan of colorful rubber gloves for as long as he can remember!

Now onto this week's menu plan. Thank you to Organizing Junkie for her hosting duties.

Finding Time for Housekeeping When You Work at Home -

Since 2005, I have been working at home. While it has been convenient for me to not have a commute, no dress code and be more productive, I've always had an ongoing battle with managing my housework.

Over the years, I've tried lists, household management binders, sharing the cleaning duties with my husband and teen and even hiring a housekeeper.

Work At Home Moms has an online video titled "Finding Time for Home Cleaning" that will provide some tips in you're also in this situation.

Feel free to share your household tips that work for you. I'd love to read them!

What to Buy and Not to Buy at Walmart! Courtesy of Yahoo

Here's some highlights from the article. If you would like to read the detailed article just click on the link below.

What to Buy and Not Buy at Walmart - Catherine Holehan

1. Moderately Priced Consumer Electronics

Hi-definition TV from Samsung,Sony,Philips and Sharp. Walmart also offers digital cameras made by the likes of Nikon and Canon.

2. Smart Phones

In the past year, Walmart has beefed up its offerings of higher-end cell phones, especially Blackberries. Walmart sells phones and service plans from each of the four largest U.S. carriers: Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.

3. Coffee

This year, the company partnered with TransFair USA, an independent certifying agency, to offer fair trade-certified coffee in its Walmart and Sam's Club stores. The coffee is sustainably grown by farmers who receive a living wage and is thus more expensive than competing coffees — roughly $5.88 for a 10 to 12 ounce bag, compared with less than $5 for supermarket brand Eight O'Clock Coffee. But it tastes better (or at least it should), and by selling fair-trade coffee, Walmart vastly expands the market for such goods.

4. Video Game Bundles

You can save a lot more money if you're in the market for video game systems, which Walmart often bundles with starter games. For example, Walmart was recently selling the Xbox 360 Elite gaming system, along with two games, including this season's blockbuster title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, for just $259. The game console alone sells for upward of $249 at stores such as Sears, while Call of Duty typically retails for $60. And buying video game consoles and products at Walmart is arguably a guilt-free purchase. After all, Sears isn't known for standing up against suburban sprawl.

5. Laundry Detergent

When it comes to the environment, Walmart's suppliers have often fallen far short of best practices. Now the chain is trying to clean up its act by offering more eco-friendly products. One area where it's done the most is laundry detergent. The company recently switched to selling only concentrated laundry detergent in its U.S. stores — these products use up to 50 percent less packaging and require less fuel to transport than the earlier versions. Once again, scale matters: Walmart has a serious carbon footprint, so cutting laundry detergent containers by half can have a big impact.

What Not to Buy at Walmart

While Walmart has recently burnished its reputation among upscale shoppers, there are still some product categories where you'd be better off going elsewhere — either because you're straying beyond Walmart's core competency, or to avoid supporting the giant retailer's bad behavior. Here are three of them.

1. High-End Electronics

Though Walmart has expanded its selection of name-brand electronics, it's still focused on value-oriented products in the sub-$1,000 price range. And its sales staff tend not to be experts in the finer points of multimedia interface.

2. Books

This year, Walmart slashed prices aggressively to establish itself as the low-price leader for best-selling books. The store cut the cost of popular novels such as Stephen King's Under the Dome by 70 percent to $13.99, sparking a price war with Amazon.

The Walmart/Amazon rivalry translates into incredibly low prices for consumers on some of the most popular book titles. But Walmart's prices come at a cost, say local business advocates. In the long-run, such deep discounts can drive independent booksellers out of business.

3. Wood Furniture

Despite Walmart's increased focus on sustainability, the retailer has a long way to go in the furniture category. In December 2007, an environmental group published a report tracing furniture from Walmart suppliers to wood illegally logged in protected Russian habitats for Siberian tigers and other wildlife.
