Show Us Your Life - China Patterns

Kelly's Korner is having another fun Show Us Your Life!

We've gone through several sets of dinnerware sets over the years. At this time I have a mis-match set of plates, saucers, and cups.

So, if I were to really splurge on a set of chinaware it would be the Melamine Rooster Dinnerware at William Sonoma!

I love the colors and pattern. It would make any dish look extra special. The set also reflects our style ~ fun, entertaining and versatile.

Updating My Resume - Work at Home Job Search

Last night I asked my husband to assist me with updating my resume. He's always had a great way with words and provides constructive criticism.

As a rule, I like keeping my work at home resume to one page. I also keep it to no more then 6 years of work experience.

When completed I save it in Word 97-2003 as well as current Word program. I've found that when forwarding a resume many companies request Word 97-2003.

It's also a good idea to get a third opinion. When Marcus read my resume he suggested that we drop a sentence since it didn't seem necessary.

Borax - A Fantastic Deodorizer

I actually discovered the miracles of Borax while working on a science project with Marcus in 2006. Marcus and I were going to make homemade laundry detergent, wash one in the homemade and another in store bought and compare cleanliness. After purchasing the Borax I noticed, on the package, there were other household uses.

We don't make our own laundry detergent but I do use in every wash. With a very active teenage son and living in hot Las Vegas I was finding that our clothes would still have a scent of perspiration after being washed. The Borax eliminates the smell. Matter of fact, I no longer use fabric softener because the clothes smell so clean.

You'll find Borax in your laundry section, next to the powder laundry detergent,at the store. 20 Mule Borax is the most common brand. It's very affordable and with the multiple uses you'll save even more money. I recommend purchasing the larger box, it's a great value.

What are some of your inexpensive cleaning tips?

Hubby's Cooking - Southwestern Chicken Salad and Curry Chicken with Rice

During my husband's 3 days off he decided to put on his cooking hat! Marcus and I were thrilled that he did. Here's a couple of his recipes that we really enjoyed.

My husband loves curry and it works so well with chicken. In this dish he added some fresh chopped tomato after cooking the dish. It was a welcome dish on a hot day.

Southwestern Chicken Salad - I so loved that it was loaded with vegetables! The Black Beans and Tortilla Strips really made this one a keeper!

High School Graduate Gift Ideas from Etsy!

Lynn's Little Creations did it again! We're big fans since she made our renewal ceremony cake topper.

While browsing, at Etsy, I saw this Groomsmen Emergency Kit at Quickits. I asked the owner to change the label to High School Graduate Emergency Kit. Contains are a comb, pain reliever,a moist towelette, stain remover wipe,a band-aid,shoe shine wipe, breath mints, cough drops, tooth picks, boutonniere pin, safety pins, life savers, sewing kit,a tissue,a date and time & a reminder card.

I really wanted a special card that would be a keepsake. I returned to QueenBee Inspirations for this beautiful card. Marcus really loves and has it hanging on his doorknob!

My Last Work Day - June 17th

Don't you hate when you get conflicting information that ends up with bad results?

Today, while scheduling a transfer of phone and Internet service, which I have with my employer. They advised me that the apartment complex has a contract with another service provider.(it's a different company)

With that news I would not be able to continue working for the company.

When I advised me husband he became very angry and even suggested that we stay put. The problem with that is the rent savings is too good to past by.

So I'm now back in the work at home job search again.

Going left to right ~ Sean, family friend, our son Marcus and my husband, Charles

It's been a very busy week in the BerryMorin household. First our son has graduated from his distance learning high school. We're so proud of him! He's now working full time for the county as a youth counselor.

I've been working mandatory overtime. It's great for the paycheck but it's been kicking my butt. Thank goodness I work from the comforts of my home.

We're now focusing on our move in 2 weeks. Since my husband secured an Apartment Complex Manager position, he's making better money, has a 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom apartment as a benefit! This opportunity will allow us the opportunity to improve our financial situation.

Now onto our weekly menu! *recipes are courtesy of Real Simple and The Prudent Homemaker

*Shrimp Rolls, Fruit and Mixed Green Salad

Baked Ham, Red Potatoes, Green Beans

*Creamy Chicken Enchiladas and Tomato, Cucumber Salad

Baked Pork Chops, Mixed Green Salad, Tomato, Cucumber Salad

Herb Roasted Chicken, Macaroni Salad, Whole Wheat Rolls

Curried Shrimp Rolls - A Great Summertime Sandwich

The hot temps have returned to Las Vegas! You're hungry but you don't want a heavy meal.

Last night I made Curried Shrimp Rolls for dinner. I decided to include some sliced tomatoes inside the toasted rolls and served it with half a lemon.

They taste delicious. I also loved that it was a quick prep. My husband quickly gobbled them up!

Parenting Your 18 Year Old - It's a Weird Feeling

Marcus cutting his graduation cake

Your teen has graduated from high school, they have a full time job and our society considers them an adult.

Our parenting style has been put to a challenge lately since Marcus graduated. No longer can we threaten him with taking his cell phone, laptop or his allowance when we feel his behavior warrants it.

Things came to a blow last night when Charles and I sat him down and express our concerns. He also had issues regarding his checking account and our excessive worrying.

1. He's not us at his age. Just because we were wild doesn't mean he's going down the same path. It's time to stop trying to keep him in a big bubble. As Marcus said "I don't want to be a 40 year old man living with my parents."

2. He's been having a difficult time managing his checking account so it's been decided we'll take his debit card, for now. He'll be given an weekly allowance. We'll pay his monthly cell phone bill via his account.

3. He's buying a second battery for his cell phone. His Blackberry is sucking up the juice and ultimately the phone dies. So when we call it goes right to voice mail.

4. Marcus really loves his job as a youth counselor. We discussed career opportunities with him. He's considering taking a child development college course this summer.

Kelly's Korner Show Us Your Life- Random Acts of Kindness

Kelly's Korner Show Us Your Life Friday is all about Random Acts of Kindness. In our family we're aware that we are part of a community. If an opportunity arises and we can be helpful we'll jump in.

Here's a few things that we've done and would like to do.

1. Share our food with a homeless person.

2. Helped a busy mom load up her car with groceries.

3. Covered the shortage of the person in front of you in the grocery line.

4. Picked up a dropped toy or fallen child.

5. Marcus sold his bike at an auction, gave the money to a homeless person so that they could buy a bus ticket home.

6. Paid a bill for a friend in need.

7. We won 6 Disneyland day passes and gave 3 to a large family that was standing in line.
