I turned 50 yrs old this year. My mother had terrible hot flashes so I knew there was a chance I might have them. Hot flashes can also be a symptom of Fibromyalgia.

And of course I would be suffering from hot flashes during one of the hottest summers, on record, in Las Vegas. As, I'm typing this it's 8:22pm and 105 degrees outside! Yuck!

The frequency of the hot flashes have been getting worst for about 2 weeks. It's now an everyday event with my son putting an ice pack on my head when he sees me breaking out in a sweat.

I knew I was in trouble when I took 6 showers in one day! So enough is enough! I've cutback on the coffee, increasing the yoga to 5 days a week, and will be purchasing a bottle of Black Cohosh, from my favorite health store. I'm looking at adding soy to my diet. (not a huge fan of tofu)

Cooking Thursday ~ Southern Grits

I remember having a creamier version of grits many years ago, in a restaurant Wednesday morning. So, I decided that I would attempt to make the Southern Grits, at home. You know what? They turned out creamy and delicious. Hubby love them so much he asked me to make some this morning.

Ingredients 2 cups water 1 1/4 cups milk 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup quick-cooking grits, not instant (I use Quaker)

Back2School Shot Clinic~ Low Cost School Immunization Shots for Las Vegas Kids

Excerpt from SNHD press release: Beginning Wednesday, August 1, 2012, the Southern Nevada Health District will offer its first services at its future home, 330 S. Valley View Blvd at Meadows Lane when it begins its annual back-to-school low cost immunization clinics. The health district’s new, main public health center will be open for back to school shots Monday – Friday, 8 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. Shot record is required!

No other health district services will be available at this time. For information, contact the immunization clinic, (702) 759-0850 or visit SNHD for details about special clinics.

Currently, school shots will be the only services offered throughout August at the new location. Back-to-school low cost immunizations will be available from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mon., Aug. 13-Fri., Aug. 17 and Mon., Aug. 20-Fri., Aug. 24. Special back-to-school immunization clinics will be available 8 a.m.– 3:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24 at the East Las Vegas and Henderson public health centers.

Should We Chose Amazon Prime Membership?

After I cancelled the cable I decided to look into Amazon Prime Instant Videos. I've seen many Facebook and blogger comments about it so I decided to try the 1-month trial period. Then the cost will be $79 annually.

My only complaint would be there's no captions, a must when watching British TV programming.

Social Security Administration Issues New Fibromyalgia Disability Ruling - US Politics Today

On July 25, 2012, the Social Security Administration released a new ruling that details how they evaluate fibromyalgia in disability claims. For those who have been suffering from severe Fibromyalgia and are planning or currently filing for Social Security Disability this is an important and positive development.

Excerpt from press release: The physician must diagnose fibromyalgia and provide the type of evidence described in the new ruling, and this information must not be inconsistent with other information in the Social Security Disability applicant's case record.

Specifically, the new ruling sets out two instances in which fibromyalgia may qualify as a medically determinable impairment. First, if all three of the following are present:
1) A history of widespread pain -- that is, pain in all quadrants of the body that lasted for at least three months
2) At least 11 positive tender points on the body (there are 18 "tender point sites" on the body, and they are "positive" if the patient experiences pain when the physician palpitates the area)
3) Evidence that other disorders that could cause these symptoms or signs were ruled out
In the second instance, the first and third factors above remain the same, but number two may be replaced by repeated occurrences of six or more fibromyalgia symptoms, signs or co-occurring conditions, chiefly fatigue, cognitive or memory problems, waking unrefreshed from sleep, depression, anxiety disorder or irritable bowel syndrome.
