It's a moment that happens all too frequently for women with a different skin tone from her child's: someone in public will ask them "Are you the nanny?"
Even in this day of multi-ethnic children and diversity, people still experience this type of question and stares. My husband, who's Mexican American light skin, occasionally is asked "Where's Marcus' dad"? His reply, "I'm right here".
