Home Office: Surrounding Myself With Positive !

When I'm able to take a seat, for a few minutes, at the desk, it's nice to have positive words, photos and things around me. It's been difficult to seat even for a 10-15 minutes. Sometimes I like to stand in there, mediate or pray. It's good to have a space for me to hang out in.

My First PaperBack Swap Book Has Arrived!

Who doesn't want to receive something other than junk mail in the their snail mailbox? ME!! I decided that I would re-read some of my favorites from the Laura Ingalls Wilder series. There's something so humbling and renewing to my soul that happens while reading her books!

Our House: Valentine's Day Decorations 2013

Valentine's Day is February 14th! So after breakfast, I broke out some decorations this and got to it! To keep the cost down I put prior years Valentine's Day cards to work. The paper punch up hearts is an easy craft project for many. Or you can purchase one from Etsy, like I did! The hearts were purchased from Big Lots, on clearance. Your child's art work can be displayed too. Even when they're all grown up like my son! Magazine pages can be turned into decorative art with a beautiful, inexpensive frame from Big Lots.

New statistics show Nevada's effective jobless rate is 20.3 percent

Source: csebastian.tumblr.com via Jodie on Pinterest

As some areas of the US are slowly improving the state of Nevada's unemployment rate remains high.  Much of this is self-inflicted because of lack of willingness to change.

Many industries aren't interested in wanting to come to the state with lack of highly trained employees,  poor health care and lifestyle.

The answer to this problem?  In my opinion, Nevada would need to make several changes such as releasing the strong hold of the casino owners, cleaning up their image and implementing a state tax.  And that would be a starting point.

Valentine's Day Decorations~ 2013

I love Valentine's Day. And I especially love decorating with little accents through out the apartment. Do you decorate for Valentine's Day?

My Birthday Dinner Was Delicious!

First of all, can you see the steam in the photo? That's the results of our new digital camera, Canon PowerShot A4000 IS!

Beef with mushroom wine sauce and sauteed carrots! Delicious!

Too Cold to Walk Outside? Take a Walk with Denise & Friends

Yes, it does get so cold and breezy, in Las Vegas, that I don't want to take my daily walk outside!

And since I really enjoy taking a daily walk I started searching for a beginner walk exercise, on YouTube. Don't you just love YouTube?!

Source: youtube.com via Rona on Pinterest

I've been doing this 15 min walk routine for over a week now. With some changes to some of the arm work, so I didn't aggravate my myofascial pain syndrome, I'm definitely getting the aerobic benefits! Aha! I love the release of endorphins!

I really like Denise Austin. Especially, "You're burning butter"! I always chuckle when she says that!

Remember! Exercise is great for chronic pain, menopause and depression. But always check with your doctor before starting a workout routine.

It's My 51st Birthday! Whoo Hoo!

What a wonderful way to start my birthday morning! Green Mountain Hazelnut coffee! Thanks hubby!

Menu Plan Monday ~ January 28, 2013

I'm so glad I had some Kleenex with me while watching last night's Downton Abbey! I won't provide any spoilers, in case you haven't seen it, but be prepared to have some tissues! Don't forget you can see last night's episode at PBS!

Tomorrow, this gal turns 51 years old! I'm thrilled to still be blessed with another birthday. Despite my chronic pain I still find great joy...everyday! The Heavenly Father has given me a wonderful life. Thank you!

I Love Our New Dishwasher!

After the heating element, in the dishwasher, shorted out on Thursday my husband had maintenance remove it. On Saturday, they came by with a replacement.

Today, I finally got around to washing a load of dishes. Take a look at this glass...Wow! Is it clean and shiny! What a difference!

I Made Buttercream Frosting! Whoo Hoo!

I decided that I would request a homemade birthday cake from my hubby and son this year! We followed the buttercream frosting recipe that was on the back of the confectionery sugar box. The ingredients are pretty basic, butter, milk, confectionery sugar, and vanilla. Of course, hubby assisted in blending and frosting the cake!

Everyone than took a taste test. It's official! Our first homemade frosting is a success!

Jumping Tandem Sunday: One's Passion Will Lead You Right to a Purpose

Thanks to Jumping Tandem for hosting Sundays! Source: splashofhope.tumblr.com via Shelby on Pinterest

When I first told my husband that I was going to stop working, due to my chronic pain, he expressed support but concern over me getting bored. I told him that I would be able to pursue my interests. (whatever they are)

I'm enjoying gentle yoga for chronic pain sufferers. Mediation has been a blessing for reducing my stress and anxiety. And who knew that cooking and baking from scratch would be a passion of mine a year ago? This year, I even made my first cake and frosting!

Thank you Heavenly Father for giving me this life!

Target: Window Shopping for Dinnerware

The hubby and I stopped by Target this weekend for to pick up a prescription but somehow found ourselves in the home section looking at dinnerware!

I sorta like the square plates. Are you a fan? My husband really likes this beige leaf pattern. More square plates with a colorful pattern!

White Bean, Ham and Leek Soup~Epicurious

I love cooking with leeks! They're so fragrant and delicious when sauteed. They add a mild onion taste to soups.

We usually have potato and leek soup but my husband requested something with white beans. So, I did an online search and found a recipe at epicurious that fit the bill!

I'm adding this soup to our Family Favorite Recipes~ White Bean, Ham and Leek Soup!

The kitchen smelled of leeks, ham and rosemary!

The delicious scents had everyone taking a peek as the soup simmered for 30 minutes partly covered.
