Follow Up On Managing Medical Debt: Ask for Samples

Yesterday, I posted a link to a HuffPostLive segment, Managing Your Medical Debt. Many of us that suffer from chronic illness have to deal with the stress of seeking treatments and mounting health expenses. But there are saving tips that might help chip away at your medical bills.

One suggestion that has worked for me is asking for samples when given a prescription. Sometimes doctors, nurses and Physician Assistants will offer but if they don't, Ask. I had one doctor give me a year's supply of migraine medication! That was a huge savings!

Don't forget when trying a new medication, you may have severe side effects, resulting in another prescription being written! Example: my husband went through 3 scripts till he found the right one. $75 later!

Here's my goodie bag from my dermatologist today! samples and a coupon

HuffPostLive: Managing Medical Debt

I'm actually going to a doctor's appointment tomorrow. I'll be spending $45, for my office visit, for a specialist. And if the doctor writes me any prescriptions that will be $25 each.

Isn't it a wonder that many of us aren't even able to utilize our health care let alone manage our medical debt, as chronic illness sufferers.

The HPL segment mentioned Rolling Jubilee, a program that buys medical debt and than abolishes it!

If you have Vons in your area you probably know about that awesome club card savings can be found. Last week, I added 3 thick Porterhouse steaks to our grocery delivery for a whopping savings of $34!

After our son took a look at the sales price he asked me why didn't I buy more! Ooops!

Menu Plan Monday ~March 4, 2013

I watched the first episode of The Bible on History Channel last night? With all the advertising and social media buzz I was really looking forward to seeing it. While I do think the producers went for dramatic license and affect, I do hope that the series will stir the desire for people to read the Bible stories. It certainly has done that for me.

Our grocery delivery from Vons was on Saturday so the hubby and son were here to put it away. It's a convenient service, as well as keeping me within budget. Vons also had some amazing meat sales. 3 thick Porterhouse steaks for $19.95! I saved $34!

Smart & Final Finds ~ March 2013

I attended a Smart & Final twitter party, last month, where the topic was their Ambiance brand of coffee and teas. I didn't win a prize but I did come from the party interested in giving Ambiance coffee a try.

In our local store, it was $5.99, so I grabbed a lb along with a box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda, Glam Gloves, Tartar Sauce and Mule 8 Borax.

Smart & Final offers large size items at discounted prices. Many times, I can even beat Walmart prices!
