Pedicure: Essie Mochacino

I thought I would try Essie Mochacino on this nail salon visit. I even tried a different nail salon. The tech rushed through and I noticed the sloppy job when I got home. (won't be heading back)

This is the first time my husband didn't like a nail polish color of my choosing. He also requested that I stay with the lighter summery nail polish colors. Who says men don't notice our nails?

Thursday Dinner: Lemon Halibut, Jasmine Rice and Steamed Kale

Thursday dinner was inspired by Cooking with Carolyn's Grilled Halibut & Brown Basmati Herb Rice! I love her recipes, especially the Lighter Side recipes.

I decided to use fresh lemon juice on the fish and in the rice. The kale was steamed, added sauted garlic too! Oh, and I added fresh chives to the rice.

This was a quick, delicious weeknight meal. I'll definitely be making it again!

Thursday Thoughts ~ August 14, 2014

Ramblings of a Suburban Mom

Singer,Tori Amos spoke with Caitlyn Becker, HuffPostLive host, about how women apoligize too much. Lately, I've been more aware of not over-apoligizing. How about you?

A panel joined Marc Lamont Hill, HuffPost Live to discuss how schools are now incentivizing teachers to cheat.

I actually watched this segment live. Let me just say that the HPL community chat was very lively, with many commenters agreeing with the panel.

As an outsider, I don't have an opinion on the topic. I do think there's plenty of blame to go around for the current condition of many of our public schools.

If you follow my blog, you may know that I suffer from Major Depression. With the recent passing of Robin Williams, the conversation of Depression has come to the forefront again.

Darn Kim K. game for causing the decline of Candy Crush! Well, I don't know about that but this gal actually started playing it while she was in the hospital. And I am hooked!

I know, I need help!

SeaWorld stock are tanking. Many believe that documentary 'Blackfish' had something to do with it. I've seen the documentary a few times and it did change my view of SeaWorld. Who didn't feel a teary when they took the baby orca from the mother?

Gwynnie Bee: London Times Side Ruched Floral Mesh Dress

I think this is the dress for an event that my husband and I will be attending this month! I can't express it often enought how convenient Gwynnie Bee clothing subscription is!

Promise to share more photos of me wearing the dress, at the event!

When I have the energy I like to bake. I love the smells of vanilla, working with the batter and of course eating the results! Hubby and the son love it too!

Travel Tips for Transplant Recipients

I have to thank Dawn, SpoonieChat host, for sharing this article. I've been on the lookout for travel tip articles and blog posts for people living with chronic illness. So, if you have one that you would like to share, please let me know.

Have Transplant, Will Travel 10 Tips for Transplant Recipients by Jack Fassnacht

Having a transplant shouldn’t keep anyone from traveling; it just requires a little extra planning. By making travel arrangements in advance, I’ve been able to travel throughout the United States on both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Now that I have a kidney transplant, it’s even easier to travel. I’ve visited 14 National Parks, Niagara Falls (awesome!) and over twenty different countries with my new kidney.

Based on my experiences over the years, here are 10 tips to help make traveling with a transplant easier and safer:

1. More is more! Take a greater supply of your medications than you think you will need. Due to car problems, missed flights, or just the desire to enjoy an extra day at the beach, trips sometimes last longer than you originally planned. Avoid running out of your medicines by taking more than you think you will need. And don’t guess when it comes to quantity–count pills out before you go!

You can read the entire article at The National Kidney Foundation.

I'm In Recovery Mode

Last Thursday, I was rushed to emergency with Stroke symptoms. (drooping facial muscles, slurred speech) After running initial tests, the doctor decided to admit me to the hospital. The conclusion: I had a severe Migraine

I was released on Saturday, need to follow up with my doctor, monitor my blood pressure daily. Today, I'm still loopy. Not sure if that's the results of the dye injection for one of the MRI test but so glad to be home!

I prayed that the Lord would get me through the physical pain but I did have to opiates to relief the pain. As soon as I felt a little better I requested that they switch me to aspirin.

I want to thank everyone for the prayers and positive words. They definitely meant a lot to my family and I. In the meantime, I'm going to be kind to my body and listen to it more.
