Ugh! Our Hallway Bathroom Toilet is Overflowing!

Oh my gosh! Our hallway bathroom toilet clogged up and overflowed into the hallway!

I immediately called the emergency maintenance person to report the incident!

Marcus and I cut the water off, mopped up all the water, threw away the bath mat and drain some of the water from the toilet. (I almost threw up)

The maintenance person told us that was smart of us to turn off the water. He did unclog the toilet successful.

Now I'm going to need a carpet cleaner to do the hallway. Ugh!

Kiana lived with us for almost a year after needing a temporary home. My husband and I grew to really care about her.

Even though she's grown and living on her own I do chat with her. She's always going to be a member of our family.

I can finally announce that Kiki aka Kiana has secured a job in a restaurant! Charles and I are very proud of her. We wish her the very best as she starts her job this week!

Man suffers heart attack at Heart Attack Grill - FOX5 Vegas - KVVU

The Heart Attack Grill in downtown Las Vegas lived up to its name Saturday night, when a customer dining on a "triple bypass burger" suffered an apparent heart attack!

One meal, the "quadruple bypass burger" can easily exceed 8,000 calories. Yikes!

I don't know about you but I enjoy having a meal that is memorable but not like this! You may want to skip this restaurant during your visit to Las Vegas.

Organizing My Rubber Stamps, Inks and Supplies: Mission Accomplished!

I started on my organizing mission last month and will be continuing to tackle numerous projects around our home throughout the year!

This time I decided to tackle my rubber stamps, inks, supplies and tools by getting them in one location.

I found this small decorative trunk box at Big Lots. I decided to line up the stamps on their side to make most of the space. My glitter, stamps, glue gun and embossing gun also have space.

Happy Valentine's Day to you! Hubby and I celebrated on Sunday. He now has the weekends off so it was fun to spend it with him.

On Sunday, we took a walk, ended up at Big Lots, did some window shopping, test drove the office chairs and took a ride on on a patio swing. We always have the best time together.

I'll be doing our grocery shopping on Friday so our plan might change due to the grocery store weekly flyers.

Chicken Stir Fry for Lunch

I just used one boneless chicken breast, half a red and yellow pepper, olive oil, salt and pepper, and Ramen noodles. I didn't use the beef packet..too much salt.

Stir fry ingredients for a few minutes. Boil Ramen noodles. Add noodles to frying pan and my lunch was ready!

My first attempt of baking cupcakes with the liners. No sticking! I used a store bought red icing. Next time I'll buy a white frosting and red dye.

Just a few notables: I purchased the Arm & Hammer laundry detergent for $4! Marcus' Pop Tarts was only $2.50. I actually got a hug and "You're an amazing mom"! for that purchase.

I'm saving the cupcakes for Valentine's Day. The frosting and cupcake mix was only $3. I also purchased the Blueberry muffin mix for $2.

It's a new year and time to make some changes to our living room space.

I really want to replace these pillows. The blue ones are over 10 years old. Maybe I'll just purchase some pillow covers from my favorite Etsy store. I also want to put a 2-3 tier bookcase under the mirror. Target has a burgundy lamp shade that would look better than the tan one.
I think we'll hang onto the Ikea coffee table for another year.

My wish list includes replacing our old TV with a flat screen. There's a console table I have an eye on that would replace the bench.

I think I'll do some more window shopping at Etsy now.

Pardee Homes has a new housing development in Henderson, Nevada called Montclaire. Henderson is a beautiful city, located outside of Las Vegas. If money was no object, here's Rona's dream house.

My husband and I love the open concept of this house plan. The optional 4th bedroom would make a wonderful office. I like the idea of a powder room too.

I would love to have a deck outside of the master bedroom. The bathroom is a winner with me with the addition of a vanity!

It would be nice to have a media room. The decorating style for media room would be based on the HGTV 2012 Dream Home.

And who wouldn't love having their laundry room on same floor as their bedrooms? Me, me!

Some will just start talking behind your back, while you slowly feel you are losing your dignity trying to make them understand, especially when you are in a conversation with a Normal person and can't even remember what you were going to say next!

In closing, (I was hoping to keep this a secret!) but I suppose you already found out........the ONLY place you will get any support and understanding in dealing with me is with Other People With Fibromyalgia.

Paula Deen Announces She Has Type 2 Diabetes

Our son nickname for Paula Deen is the Butter Lady. After all, we know how much she love butter. And I don't blame her for that.

Recently, Ms. Deen announced she has Type 2 Diabetes, on The Today Show, after the National Enquirer did a story. Apparently, she's known this for 3 years and is under doctor's care.

Now, here's where it gets tricky for her. Much of the uproar is due to the fact that she continued to promote her heavy fat, rich Southern style cooking even though she has Type 2.

As a wife of a Type 2 I can say that your lifestyle does have to change. My husband lost 50 lbs through diet and exercise over 18 years. He's continues to maintain his weight and take medication. The entire family follows a healthier lifestyle. And we're much better for it.

At the same time, lets remember that this style of cooking is her bread and butter. Would people still eat at her restaurant, purchase her cookbooks and products if she created a healthier version?

January Clean Up: New File Folders and Storage Bin for Home Office

I purchased these items at Office Depot.

I saw this Christopher Lloyd storage basket. It's just what I was looking for to tame paper monster! I made the File tag from scrap booking materials.

Our old file folders definitely needed to be replaced after 6 years of use. These folders are decorative and a heavier card stock.

Tips for Coping with Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia

I have found over the 12 years of living with severe chronic pain that my coping skills need occasion toning. What might have worked for me 3 years ago may not have any benefit now.

Over the years I've also become more confident to try something new. For example, I take regular walks despite the pain flareups. Walking especially helps me with reducing my stress anxiety and depression. (I do take anti-depressants)

Listening to the birds chirping, seeing the tree branches sway in the breeze bring me some moments of calmness to my racing thoughts. They're helpful during meditating.

Another self discovery...Bananas. I eat one every day after realizing a reduction in the throbbing and shooting pains in my hands. These days, my husband makes sure there are bananas in the fruit bowl.

BerryMorins Chicken and Dumplings

Marcus was in charge of brown and seasoning the chicken and vegetables. He did add poultry seasoning, along with salt and pepper before placing in a 300 degree oven.

I made the dumplings according to the recipe. Next time I'll make less dumplings because we ended up with too many to use. Note to self: buy a rolling pin

After removing from the oven, Marcus separated the chicken from the bones. Second note to self: Next time save the carcass to make homemade chicken broth.

The finish product was delicious! Marcus and I have fun cooking together, especially new recipes. Marcus even raved how much he loved it! This is going to make a delicious surprise for hubby when he comes home from work.

Since I'm no longer working for Century Link there's no need for their DSL service!

We already have Cox Cable Internet in Marcus' room but we needed to network the signal.

We purchased a Belkin N300 wireless router and an adapter, at Walmart.com, last night. By the time Charles arrived at the store it was ready for pick up.

This morning, Marcus, our tech guy and son, installed the program on the desktops.

You know? I actually forgot how fast cable Internet can be!

Ever since I stopped taking opiates my appetite has been affected. Sometimes it takes more than just being hungry to get me to eat. Eye appeal has become much more important.

I just threw this together yesterday with leftover chicken and mushrooms and some frozen fire roasted potatoes and vegetables. The frozen fire roasted potatoes and vegetables are seasoned with rosemary, garlic and olive oil are available from Schwans.

The combinations smelled so good Marcus asked me for a bite!

I wanted to get to SuperCuts early so I wouldn't have much of a wait. My timing was perfect because when I walked in there was a chair ready!

I decided to just have my usual, buzz cut, done. The hair stylist did a fantastic job!

Etta James, Singer, Passed Away ~ "At Last"

My husband stuck his head into the shower and informed me that Etta James had died. It wasn't much of a surprise due her admittance to the hospital for multiple conditions, including leukemia.

I will always remember the Valentine's Day that my husband treated us to tickets to see her perform in Las Vegas. She walked out to the stage, with assistance, sat down and the stool and began sharing stories and belting out some tunes.

Unfortunately, the show was stopped early due to her declining health and the tickets were refunded.

When my husband and I took to the dance floor after renewing our wedding vows, 3 years ago he had them play "At Last" by Etta James. We just love the words of that song.

We pray that Miss James' family and friends will find comfort in the fact she is now at peace. We will truly miss her.

Target Pharmacy's $4 Generic Prescription Plan

Due to a paperwork error I will have to wait till November's health plan enrollment to be added to my husband's health insurance plan. In the meantime I needed to find the most affordable prescription plan in my area.

Before my doctor's appointment today I went to the Nevada Drug Card website, click on the price comparison for each of my medications. My local Target pharmacy came up with the lowest price!

When I arrived at Target, Josh, the pharmacist, was very friendly and informative when I informed him I had no health insurance. He took the time to verify that my medications were on their $4 Generic Prescriptive Plan. Josh even took the time to input my information into their computer system. I was than informed that the scripts would only take 20 minutes to be filled. I was thrilled!

When I came back to pick them up they were ready with 2 minutes to spare! And since I'm now going to be a regular Target pharmacy customer I signed up for their Pharmacy Rewards Plan. After filling 5 eligible prescriptions I will receive 5% off a day of Target shopping. Very cool!

I've Started My SSDI Claim Today

After a short discussion with my husband we have decided that I will not be returning to work. It's time to start listening to my body.

I've contacted a law firm to file my Social Security Disability Insurance claim today. They'll take care of the initial filing and process, for me.

Time will only tell how long it will take for me to receive my benefits. Some people get approved within months and others take years.

In the meantime, I will continue to see a primary doctor to keep my medical records updated. I also need to consolidate my medical history for the last 11 years. (that will keep me busy)

I would also love to hear from those of you that have had experience with filing a SSDI disability claim. Please feel free to share your comments.

Happy 100th Birthday LL Bean!

When we moved to Portland, Maine, in 1976 I never saw a Bean boot before. Despite their popularity around town, I actually remember thinking these were ugly boots.

The boots are designed for warm and keeping your feet warm. I remember after "borrowing" my sister's Bean boots I immediately fell in love.

I have fond memories of my husband taking me to Freeport to tour LL Bean's flagship store when we were dating. It's definitely worth the trip to get a photo of the Big Bean boot!

This is a company that has always believed in provided a quality product and great customer service! Happy Birthday LL Bean!

The Martha Stewart Show Has Been Canceled on The Hallmark Channel

After lower viewers and high production it appears The Hallmark Channel has decided to pull the plug on The Martha Stewart Show.

I was never a fan of the live audience format. My favorite was the classic shows when one felt Martha was just showing you the proper way to iron a shirt or clean your heirloom linens.

It didn't help that Cox Cable moved The Hallmark Channel to their digital line up. I wasn't going to pay extra just to follow Martha.

I don't think Martha will be leaving us entirely. We'll still have her Sirius/XM show, magazines, products and website.

I'm Making a Bundt Cake! Yum!

I'm still in a Clean Up and Organizing State of Mind this week. On the list of task for this week are organizing Charles' work papers, sorting and filing last year's medical receipts. That should keep the shredder busy.

I also want to stock up on the paper towels, toilet paper, and other household items. After Marcus did some re-organization in the hallway bathroom we now have lots of empty storage.

Family Office Rolodex File Box: Arts and Crafts Project

Last night, I was in the mood and had the energy to make a family office Rolodex. Armed with some scrap booking supplies, scissors, Post-It flags, index cards and a clear file box I got right to it!

Front view: I cut the shape of the index card out of the printed card stock. Than I used this style of letters to spell "FILE".

Back view: I decided to give the back a finished look by using the same printed card stock.

We have some Post-It flags left over from our property management days so I decided to utilize them. I also used a smaller font letter for the sections.

The finished project now has a permanent home, on the desk!

The New Betty Crocker Big Red Cookbook Has Arrived!

It was time to retire our Betty Crocker Big Red Cookbook. Over the years, it has definitely served our family well. It has the stains and ripped pages to proof many years of service.

When I got ready to throw the old Big Red into the trash Marcus asked me not to. He has too many fond memories of the 2 of us making cookies or pancakes from scratch.

Big Lot Finds: January 2012

I took a walk to Big Lots to purchase supplies to make a Rolodex, for the home office. I found a clear file box for $1.25 and index cards for $1.

Marcus and I love cleaning supplies! (it's a sickness) The cleaning wipes were a $1 each.

I'm thinking of making a small clothespin banner for the office and saw the scrapbook stickers were $1. Grand total $6!

January Clean Up: Sharing Old Photos and Memories

Yesterday, I decided to sort through the containers of family photos. I really need to organized and catalog those photos. After all, one day our son will inherit these photos.

In the meantime, I went ahead and redid our living room wall gallery. I just love the touch of red from the cranberry wreath. I'm also fond of these framed quotes! To make them special I purchased inexpensive frames for under $5 at Big Lots.

At this memo board I added a couple of school pictures, photos from the husband's youth and military travels. Marcus was quick to spot the Ford sports car which belonged to my husband's brother, Tony. "Why did you get rid of the car Dad?"

I got a big smile when I found a photo of my family house in Maine. Some good memories such as Charles to meeting my family and Marcus' first 2 years. I haven't been back to Maine but I sure do miss all of that green grass, trees and Amatos Italians!

Chris, Charles' sister, gave me a box of family photos before she died. I was thrilled to discover that there were 3 copies of this photo of their parents' wedding. I later gave one to Marcus.

Marcus freaked when he found out that this was the bike my husband rode as a teen. He turned around and said "Where's my bike"?!

My husband and I loved sharing family stories behind the photos with Marcus. He was thrilled when I present him with his share of family photo.

Warning: I do speak honestly about the side effects of opiate withdrawals

Last August, I stopped taking opiates after 11 years. They just weren't working anymore. My body was actually creating more pain to be fed. I was very afraid of stopping But before I made the plunge I had made sure I had the support of my husband.

I definitely needed during the withdraw process.

My husband was the one who held my hand when I needed encouragement to continue while lying in a pool of sweat. He was the one who wiped my head when I was vomiting. And during the terrible moment when I lost my bowels and didn't know it he was comforting and caring while he helped clean me up.

He's a loving husband...I am very blessed.

As we start a new year together I want everyone to know how much I am in love with my husband. Love you Big Daddy! Always, Bubbles

Last Call for "One Life to Live" Soap Opera

"One Life to Live", ABC soap opera, is wrapping up this week! This is another soap that my mother introduced me to. She would be watching when we got home from school.

As a teen it became a daily habit to tune in to see what Tina and Asa were up to.

But, as we know, our viewing choices have changed with more entertainment options. In my opinion it didn't help that the industry relied on poor story lines even recycling them year after year!

The recession definitely didn't help these expensive productions either. They became old dinosaurs that were no longer profitable to the Big 3 networks.

So, as they turn the lights off at "One Life to Live" it does have me wondering how much longer the remaining 4 soaps will be around?

My Comments Regarding COBRA Benefits

I'm hoping to be added to my husband's health insurance plan but have hit a roadblock. Even though I gave a separation date of December 6, 2011 Century Link continued my health benefits till December 31, 2011. Good news for me because I was able to get a few prescription refills. Bad news because my husband's employer will be getting back to me after they do some researching. It's past the 30 days after the separation date so I may have to wait till next enrollment.

In the meantime, I received the COBRA paperwork. It looks like if I want to continue my health insurance benefits it's going to cost almost $500 a month!

If I'm unable to be added to my husband's health plan I will wait till next November's enrollment.

Good news: I'm no longer taking opiates, which many general practice doctors don't want to write. I've also stopped taking one of my muscle relaxers so I will have less prescriptions to refill. I will pay the cash office visit rate to see a doctor and utilize the Nevada Drug Plan card for my medications.

One Word 2012 ~ Pace

I know that many of you are participating in the One Word 2012. So, it got me thinking...is there a word that I would like to live by this year?

For me, the Word is Pacing. According to the free dictionary.com one of the meanings is to advance or develop (something) at a particular rate or tempo.

Last year, my pain level was increasing, daily stress anxiety and nightly teeth grinding. I quit taking my opiates after 11 years in August. Last month I put in my resignation and never looked back. The decision was so right for me. And guess what?! The next day I noticed less anxiety. I even noticed my mouth was aching due to the teeth grinding in a couple of weeks.

All those years my body was screaming for me to slow down, stop fighting so hard with my chronic pain and take a breathe.

As my son loves to say too many people rush through their lives...they need to slow down and smell the roses!

I love how good the roses smell!

We've Caught the Cold! Ugh!

It started with the hubby, then Marcus and now me.

So when mama isn't feeling well that means housework isn't done as quickly.

Marcus and Charles are more apt to grab pizza instead of preparing dinner. (they forgot to throw out the pizza boxes)

As of today, Marcus and Charles are feeling better. The hubby went to work.

When I come down with a cold or the flu it also increases my pain level. So this gal is lying in bed watching "Law & Order" episodes, surrounded with a box of Klennex,a bottle of asprin, pitcher of water and nasal saline drops.

Our Washer Machine: The Agitator is Working Again !

Just a quick review: the agitator stopped working in our apartment washer several months ago. We didn't want to rent or purchase a replacement. The apartment manager kept advising us that they would either replace the washer or get a part.

Well, today Mark, maintenance person, stopped by to fix our heating system so I mentioned the washer. He than informed me had the parts in his truck and would tend to the washer as well.

I'm thrilled to announce that the agitator is working! Issue resolved!

January Clean Up Month: Shampoo Carpets

The carpet cleaning company was at a neighbor's yesterday so I scheduled them for today. I even got a discount.

"Mom ! What's for Dinner !" Marcus' Simple Lasagna

When your kids ask you "What's for dinner"? Have them prep and cook with you!

I started with sauteing the onions, mushrooms and ground beef. Then we started assembling the lasagna.

Marcus was in charge of grated the Mozzarella cheese.

Frozen ravioli makes this recipe very quick and easy.

Here's the finished product before we add foil and place in the oven at 350 degrees.

While it was nice to have some extra kitchen counter space after the microwave died, Charles and I decided to purchase a new microwave at Target.

We're actually glad to have one in the house again. My husband works late and it's much more convenient for him to heat up his dinner in a microwave.

It's a New Year and New Health Plan: Is It $15 or $30 Co-Pay?!

My husband's new health insurance plan kicked in on January 1st so I decided to schedule a doctor's appointment for him today.

I went with him since we were going to do some shopping afterwards. So, while he was checking in and paying his co-pay I sat down in the waiting room.

Later, the hubby sat right next to me and said, "Take a look at this"! I looked at the receipt to see that his co-pay was $30!

So, here I sit, on hold with my husband's health insurance company, listening to music, to confirm if his health insurance card co-pay $15 is incorrect!

Update: $15 co-pay should have been charged! Now I have to speak with the billing department! Ugh!

Starbucks Carmel Marcchiato ~ Ah! I Needed That!

I started feeling really droopy at Target and realized it's time for a Starbucks coffee fix!

For this coffee drinker, Starbucks is a treat! I make and drink my coffee at home. If I'm out early I might stop by McDonald's or a gas station for an inexpensive coffee to go.

So, in honor of not having a Caramel Macchiato for over 10 years I decided to treat myself today!

After one sip I had the energy to go grocery shopping and clean our home!

50th Birthday Dress Pre-Shopping

On January 29, I'll be turning 50 years old!

My husband, Charles asked me which restaurant do I want to go to. I haven't decided yet because I'm actually trying on dresses for my birthday dinner. Then I'll have an idea of where I would like to celebrate!

I purchased this dress at Target for only $7 a few years ago.

If I choose this dress I just need a new pair of shoes.

January Means Clean Up Time! Starting With The Purse

I'm Watching "All Creatures Great and Small" This Evening!

When my pain gets worst this on my favorite TV shows to watch on DVD or on Netflix Watch Instantly.

This was a series that I got hooked on while living in Portland, Maine many years ago. Every Sunday, I watched the trials and misadventures of the staff of a country veterinary office in 1940's Yorkshire, on the local PBS channel.

Tristan, Siegfried, Helen and James ~ All Creatures Great and Small

James Herriot is a vet in Yorkshire, England, during the 1940's. He is assigned to the practice of Siegfried Farnon, who already has a successful vet business. James undergoes a variety of adventures during his work, which are just as often caused by the characters of the county (including the Farnon brothers) as the animals in his care.

Over the years, Marcus has become a fan of the show. He'll sit with me and watch a few episodes. I love hearing him laugh even when Siegfried yells at his brother, Tristan Farnon for his latest mistake.

I'm still recovering from a severe pain flare up on New Year's Eve. It left me on bed rest for the whole day. What a way to ring in 2012!

I did manage to hear the fireworks from The Strip! Charles had a route but managed to be near Fremont Street Experience at midnight.

Today was clean up, sorting and storing of the Christmas decorations. I'm so glad I decided to hold on to a large packing box. It came in handy for the larger decorations.

The tree was saved for last! Putting it back in the box seems more difficult than taking it out.

Now, I just need to change the calendars, purge the files and photos...I'll save that project for another day.

Bad Pain FlareUps....Time for Some Inspector Lewis

Whenever I have pain flare ups I know I'm going to be miserable so after between some housework and a walk to the mailbox I'll lay down and watch some episodes of "Inspector Lewis" of Masterpiece Mystery PBS.

The awesome writing and acting help keep my mind busy and off my increased pain.

Due to the various British dialects and slang I always have the captions on. For example: take away is our take out

Starting at 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve, Saturday, Dec. 31, until 9 a.m. New Year's Day, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is offering free bus rides.

The free rides apply to all RTC transit routes throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

In addition, all RTC Park & Ride lots will be open.

Riders can travel to the Bonneville Transit Center downtown where they can then transfer to a revised Deuce on the Strip and Strip & Downtown Express route to access festivities on the Strip.

Homemade Fish & Chips Recipe ~ Allrecipes

Classic Fish and Chips Recipe courtesy of Dan , at Allrecipes.

4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into strips
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup milk
1 egg
1 quart vegetable oil for frying
1 1/2 pounds cod fillets

Directions

Place potatoes in a medium-size bowl of cold water. In a separate medium-size mixing bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in the milk and egg; stir until the mixture is smooth. Let mixture stand for 20 minutes.

Preheat the oil in a large pot or electric skillet to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Fry the potatoes in the hot oil until they are tender. Drain them on paper towels.

Dredge the fish in the batter, one piece at a time, and place them in the hot oil.

Fry until the fish is golden brown. If necessary, increase the heat to maintain the 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) temperature. Drain well on paper towels.

Fry the potatoes again for 1 to 2 minutes for added crispness.

We're Watching Julie & Julia Again

The first time my husband and I watched "Julie & Julia" was a year ago, on Netflix. He came into the room, sat down and declared it's a great movie.

I'm glad that this is now one of our couple time movies. You know the ones that you can watch repeatedly and never lose their charm.

So tonight, we sit on our couch, drinking our coffee from our His and Hers coffee mugs, laughing,

and smiling while watching "Julie & Julia".

Kim Zolciak, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Wedding Dresses

Kim Zolciak, The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Kroy Breirmann, Atlanta Falcons, wedding guests were not allowed to take photos due to Bravo filming for their upcoming spin off TV show.

Apparently, the bride and groom changed clothes a few times.

I'm not a fan of the multiple dresses. I like the idea of "the dress"!

Kroy looks very handsome in his tux. Since Kim's dress is very detail I do like that she chose a shorter veil.

Check out Kim in her white jumpsuit. I can see how this would be good for dancing all night!

I've noticed that brides are starting to have a dress for the reception. This is definitely her style.

I love the white bouquet. The dress looks wicked heavy.
